The all new range from Blue Sky Energy increases charging current by operating the Solar Module in a manner that allows the module to produce all the power it is capable of. A conventional solar controller without Maximum Power Point Tracking (MPPT) simply connects the solar module directly to the battery when the battery is discharged. When the 75watt solar module in this example is connected directly to a battery charging at 12volts, its power is artificially limited to around 53 watts. This is because solar modules are rated at around 17 volts, and most batteries will only go as high as 14 volts, the difference is wasted power. In this example 22 watts or nearly 30% of the available power.

Patented MPPT from Blue Sky Energy operates in a very different fashion. The Solar Controller continually calculates the solar modules maximum power voltage, in most cases 17volts, it then ensures the solar module operates at it's maximum power voltage to extract the maximum power. The higher power extracted from the solar module is then turned into charging current to the battery. In conditions where extra power is not available from the solar module, the MPPT controller will operate as a conventional controller with very low voltage drop.

The actual power increase will vary with temperature and battery voltage. In cooler temperatures power increase can be 10-25% with 30% increase possible with a discharged battery and cooler temperatures. One thing you can be assured of is that this range will achieve maximum output from your solar modules.
